Tis the season for holiday cocktails, wine, rum and eggnog, Baileys in your coffee, more wine, and did I mention Baileys in your coffee? It’s the season for holiday parties galore and with any get together, there are usually holiday beverages in the mix. Which can prove to be challenging if you’re not drinking or trying to be moderately good.
The holidays are for indulging, but if you’re looking for a healthy balance between Cranberry Mules in those oh so pretty Moscow Mule mugs and a fizzy, zero calorie drink like Perrier – this post is for you.
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably noticed that I’m obsessed with kombucha. More importantly, our new local brew, Kissing Rocks Kombucha, founded by two moms who make kombucha in their basements. And are arguably two of the coolest new girl bosses around town.
This holiday season, I’m all about incorporating Kombucha into my holiday cocktails, starting with simple but tasty spritzer or “spritz” as I affectionately call it.
THE KOMBUCHA SPRITZ
In case you’re wondering – what the heck is kombucha – let me explain.
“Known as the “Immortal Health Elixir” by the Chinese and originating in the Far East around 2,000 years ago, kombucha is a beverage with tremendous health benefits extending to your heart, your brain and (especially) your gut.” – Source
So when you mix a little bit of kombucha with your bubbly – you’re basically adding a little bit of that immortal health elixir.
Key words being: immortal health elixir. Who wouldn’t want to drink that?
So what exactly do you need for a Kombucha Spritz?
Well, it’s REALLY easy.
- A bottle or two of your favorite brew of Kombucha. My favorite is Raspberry Rose Hips by Kissing Rocks Kombucha, but if you’re not local, Rise and Cove are also found at most grocery stores or Shoppers Drug Mart’s here on the East Coast.
- A bottle of champagne or sparkling wine.
- Pretty accessories for the perfect Instagram photo such as cranberries and rosemary twigs.
Simply pour your champagne or sparkling wine to your desire. I wanted something a little lighter, so I went for just under half a champagne flute of Prosecco.
Top with your favorite Kombucha and serve!
Yes, it’s really THAT easy and I promise, if you stick with these proportions, you’re more likely to keep that nasty hangover at bay the next morning AND you’re keeping your gut health in check while rocking around the Christmas tree!
If you’re local and want to mix some Kombucha Spritzs this holiday season (or Bacteria Juice Cocktails as I also call them to confuse family), visit Kissing Rocks Kombucha on Instagram to learn more about where they’ll be and when, or plan to visit them every Saturday morning at the Dieppe Market!
Got a bacteria lover in your life? They’re also doing SUPER cute gift certificates (pictured above) available to put under the Christmas tree for that special someone who’s into immortal health elixirs and such.
So – what are you mixing this holiday season?
Disclaimer: I happen to be “Bacteria Buds” with the team behind Kissing Rocks Kombucha and a product ambassador, but what crazy person would drink bacteria juice unless they loved it, so all opinions are 100% my own. Trust me. I love this stuff.
