Grand Manan Island is one of those places that quietly stays with you long after you leave.
Maybe it’s the salt air, the slow pace, the dramatic cliffs and foggy mornings, or the feeling that life moves a little differently out here in the Bay of Fundy. Over the years, I’ve fallen completely in love with this island, so much so that in 2022, we bought a place of our own to call home on the island.
And while that milestone marked the end of booking island accommodations for the two of us, I’m often asked where to stay for visitors and tourists alike who are planning their first, second, third, or twentieth visit to the island.
From whale watching and coastal hikes to lobster rolls eaten by the ocean and evenings spent watching the ferries come and go, Grand Manan is the kind of destination that invites you to slow down, settle in, and stay awhile.

The Surfside Motel
Open year-round, the Surfside Motel is located just minutes from the ferry landing and on the island’s most popular seaglass beach, Stanley’s Beach. Marathon Hotel
Built in 1871, the Marathon Hotel (also known as the Marathon Inn) is one of the many historic buildings on island and is perched on Marathon Lane, overlooking North Head and the ferry landing. They have a number of rooms available for rent and offer guests breakfast and dinner from June to October.

Because White Head Island is a small island just off Grand Manan Island with only a handful of places to stay, I’ve given it its own section to make planning your island getaway a little easier and less confusing. You will be required to take a short, free 20-minute ferry ride from Ingall’s Head on Grand Manan Island to access White Head Island. There are no stores, restaurants, or gas stations on the island, but there is a Community Centre that occasionally has food items for purchase.
