It should come as no surprise that when I was going through photos from my recent trip to Grand Manan and Campobello Island that I had well over a thousand to go through. I mean, we did two countries, five islands, and six ferries all in four days. One of those islands was beautiful White Head Island off the coast of Grand Manan.
I’ve visited Grand Manan so many times in the last sixteen years that I’ve lost count on how many times I’ve travelled to the island. It’s honestly one of my favorite spots on the East Coast, so in a way, stepping off the ferry kind of feels like coming home.
Of course, of the many times I’ve gone over to Grand Manan, I’d never hopped over to White Head Island.
Until this summer.
White Head Island is only accessible via a FREE ferry ride from Ingall’s Head on Grand Manan. You can check out the ferry schedule here. Be mindful of when the next ferry is leaving White Head Island once you arrive – the ferry is small and service is on a first come basis.
It’s a super short ferry ride – 20 to 30 minutes and it’s super scenic. You can enjoy it from inside your vehicle or you can get out and walk around.
Once you dock, you can navigate the island quite easily and quickly. We spent about an hour exploring before we headed back to the terminal to get in line for the 1:00pm ferry.
We found a house not far from the ferry terminal giving away free buoys. Naturally, we brought a car load home. I’m only slightly exaggerating, you guys.
We explored a super cute rocky beach that we found when the road we were travelling on ended, with seaweed wrapped rocks and gorgeous ocean views.
Because the universe is poetic sometimes, this is where I received the email that I officially + legally owned my second business, my beach apparel shop. That official name is coming soon, I swear!
If you are planning on visiting Grand Manan this summer, make sure to add a quick hop over to White Head Island to your Grand Manan to do list! You won’t regret it – just don’t miss your ferry back!
These seabirds can’t wait to welcome you to the island and it’s white marble cliffs!
