12 Days of Christmas: Day 2 – Princess and the Purse

Welcome to Day 2 of the 12 Days of Christmas here on East Coast Mermaid!

On the new moon on November 29th, 2016, I set intentions for the time between then and the next full moon. One of these intentions was to do 5 good holiday deeds and while we have a few up our sleeves (stay tuned for more), one that I was very excited to take part in was Princess and the Purse.

A local project, Princess and the Purse founder Lorraine Cormier and her team collect gently used purses and basic items, beauty products and toiletries for women in need. Last year, the organization handed out 600 purses to local Moncton women in the community.

The ask: to put things we take for granted in these gently used purses.

For example, in addition to necessities such as tooth brushes and deodorant, I added mascara to mine as I think just one coat of mascara can help a woman feel like a total girl boss in the worst times. My super thoughtful mother added a pack of holiday cards to hers for women to give friends or family this year, when they may have otherwise not been able to afford to give out Christmas cards.

To read more about the project, check out this article on CBC.

If you’re thinking about making a unique donation this holiday season, Princess and the Purse is low on donations and the need is higher than ever. Grab one of those purses you don’t use anymore, hit up the Dollarstore and fill it with goodies. Smile knowing you’ve made a difference in a woman’s life.

Not a local? Women’s shelters around the world can use these types of donations 365 days out of the year.

Don’t wait until the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future show up and remind you to do good – how will you give back to your community this Christmas?

Lastly, super special shout out to my BFF who is 8 months pregnant and leading the squad to gather up a huge donation of purses and items for Princess and the Purse. B – you are a true princess.
