Guilty Pleasure of the Month

It’s that time of year where folks like myself indulge in ALL the horror and haunts they can leading up to Halloween. It is for this reason, that when the time came for me to sit down and decide on this month’s Guilty Pleasure, I quickly realized that it was impossible for me to narrow down this month’s pick to just one guilty terror themed pleasure.

Nope, you’re getting TWO. Conveniently, both are the brain child of Ryan Murphy so I mean – they’re practically one and the same.

Scream Queens

Currently in its first season, this horror / comedy starring the likes of Emma Roberts, Lea Michelle, Jamie Lee Curtis and Oliver Hudson has already provided hours of laughs and entertainment. It’s made for cable television (FOX you are a brave network, let me tell you) but it’s so raunchy, racy, and gory – you really have to wonder what network executive agreed to this.

The story is set around a less than ordinary sorority, led by Emma Roberts who was pretty much born to play a spoiled, bratty sorority queen. When a costumed serial killer starts taking out sorority girls on campus, the gore (and dare I say it hilarity) begins. Whether you’re a girl or a guy – chances are you’ll think this show is a screaming good time.

American Horror Story

Now, this show I absolutely associate with October and Halloween, every single year. Now in its fifth season, this year’s story is set at the spooky Hotel Cortez in Los Angeles and the cast is without question my favorite cast yet. Some of my favourites have returned like Matt Bomer, Wes Bentley, Kathy Bates and Sarah Paulson, and Lady Gaga has joined the cast this year as the Countess – the bad ass, blood drinking, lady of the hotel. Her and Matt Bomer together are the definition of SLAY.

This season is said to be the darkest yet and I’m pretty sure at only two episodes in, Murphy has earned his bragging rights. This show will shock you, disturb you, and probably make you question everything you thought you knew, but it’s this sort of sorcery that just makes the show so damn good.

Are you watching either of these shows? Let me know in the comments below!

PS: You may have noticed this post is a wee bit early! All this Monday night election excitement caused me to hit publish two days early and as a result – here we are because the emails go out immediately! Oops! But come back Wednesday night for something festive.
