27 Reasons 27 Wasn’t So Bad After All

I have this weird thing about birthdays.

I love love LOVE celebrating them (I refuse to do anything less than awesome) but the closer I get to 30 the older I get, the more I tend to complain about age.

My 26th birthday – I called it my 25+1 birthday. My 27th birthday – well, let’s just say THAT birthday will be saved for another post because it was ALL KINDS OF CRAZY OMG.

No really – last year’s birthday could never possibly be outdone unless we left town. Because for Moncton standards – it was as The Hangover-esque as you can get.

Where am I going with this? Well. Last weekend I turned 28. Which was a number I dreaded more than 27. Because 27 can still be considered mid-twenties.

28 is down-right pushing thirty or as my boss calls it “circling the drain”.

drains. such a pretty mental image. #sarcasm

But as I turned 28 – which let me tell you, was one of the best birthday’s yet in all honesty.

Real. Life. I have the bestest friends ever. That is all.

I realized that I wasn’t especially looking forward to turning 27 once upon a time or you know – a year ago. But a look back through Facebook albums, Instagram pics, and Twitpics reiterated what I already knew at the back of my mind.

my 27th year was pretty freaking epic.

And now I’m going to bore you all  share with you all – WHY 27 was pretty freaking epic. Because I’m nice like that.

So.  Get comfy. Grab some coffee. Or booze. Actually booze is probably best. In case I bore you. Which could totally happen. And enjoy!

Warning. This is a IMAGE HEAVY POST if there ever was one. I’m all for iphones – pfft I’m permanently attached to mine – but if you can view this on your computer/ipad you’re doing your iphone a favor. And it’s nice to be sweet to your iphone. They bring so much joy. *sigh*

These are in order of how they happened. Not degree of epicness. But if you’re really curious as to just HOW they would rank in terms of epicness – there’s a good chance if I’m all “OMG I CANNOT” or “FLAILLLLS” – said moment was pretty freaking epic.

#1 Met Mrs. Gene Simmons (before she was Mrs. Gene Simmons)

we discussed In & Out. She was amazing.

#2 I was groped by the dude from Air Suply

I wasn’t out of love nor was I lost without you. please lower that hand a little.

#3 I went to Starbucks. In Hawaii.

Mocha Coconut Frappacino. Oh my god – I cannot. -> see? EPIC.

#4 I went to my first Luau. Drank my first Mai Tai.

OK this was just downright EPIC.

#5 I finally swam with Sea Turtles. I named this guy Sheldon.

appropriate turtle name is appropriate *flails*

#6 I survived a Tsunami (and an earthquake and volcanic erruption) in Hawaii.

slept outside at shelter set up by the Fairmont. They took INCREDIBLE care of us.

dear Fairmont – my family & I are forever thankful.

#7 I was legit IN the clouds.

5,000 + feet above sea level + wettest spot on earth. shit gets cloudy.

#8 I broke the rules. I fed the chickens.

Chicken Thug for Life – handing out Cheetos like a boss.

#9 I experienced the epicness that is Bubba’s Burgers in Kauai.

I never thought anything could beat In & Out. Until there was Bubba’s.

Robert Downey Jr. Agrees.

When asked how he survived shooting Tropic Thunder in Kauai he said, “By chain smoking camel non-filters, sipping from frozen Gatorades, and eating Bubba Burgers every night, which by the way, may be the greatest burgers on Earth.”

#10 Flew over the famous Bali Ha’i cliffs.

I was practically flying the helicopter

#11 I met the closest thing to a niece an only child can have – Sawyer <3

And it was love at first sight <3 *flails*

#12 I was reunited with Sawyer’s mother – my best friend Bailey.

Bails if I could fly to Calgary every other day and see you – I would.

#13 Another epic visit to Banff.

5th time. It never gets old. #blessed

#14 Met Kate. Twitter friend turned Bestie.

epic meeting was epic *heart swells*

#15 Met Sam Bradley. Woah.

ohmygod I cannot.

Don’t know who he is? Not only is he an incredibly talented singer. You should all basically youtube him. British. And basically the sweetest guy ever. I’m sort of kind of in love with his best friend. See below.

yeah. that cute hobo on your right. sometimes he sparkles and breaks headboards.

#16 Experienced some great nights out with my girls.

They are not all in this photo but know this – I heart them all madly.

#22 Fell in love with an East Coast Pier.

I have a mad love for Santa Monica Pier and Piers in general.

The Pier in Old Orchard Beach, Maine was NO exception.

#23 Experienced the Cabot Trail.

#24 I learned how to shoot a gun.

And it was AWESOME. In a I want to be a Charlie’s Angel sort of way.

#25 I was a Pan Am stewardess for a night. Sort of.

#26 Witnessed headboards get broken in Breaking Dawn.

the only team that matters.

#27 Enjoyed a blissful 27th Christmas with my amazing parents.

Mamosa Love.

Twenty-Seven sort of was all kinds of perfect.

And I guarantee it had A LOT to do with the many of you reading this that I am beyond lucky and blessed to call my friends, family, co-workers, Twitter followers (although lets face it – if you and I have tweeted more than once I probably consider you a friend.)

I’ve been 28 for 7 days. Almost 168 hours. Almost 10, 080 minutes. And I know that with three incredible friends’ weddings to look forward to, trips planned to Hawaii and New York City, the Starbucks GOLD CARD in my near future, and let’s face it – the last installment of my kind of favorite movie trilogy;

28 might be the best yet.

[a/n: SO. I didn’t do an official Author’s Note in the last post because it was kind of an intro sort of thingy BUT I do love doing authors notes and giving credit where credit is due. It’s also a GREAT spot to do SHOUT OUTS!

I dont know who made this photo but I love them.

I want to take a second to make TWO very important shout-outs!

ONE. I mentioned in my header that I’m sort of addicted to Fanfic. Sort of addicted would be an understatement. I would venture a guess that while I am ALWAYS reading – 75% of that is fanfic and 25% is actual novels. Don’t even get me started on the fact that I tend to read WAY more Young Adult novels than Adult Novels – that’s a story for another post.

BUT. One of my FAVORITE fanfic authors is celebrating her birthday today and because I’m the luckiest bitch ever she actually READS this blog so I need to take advantage of that and SAY!

please take this really hot photo of airport rob as a prezzie. It’s a personal favorite of mine.

yeah. this is where that “fangirl” part comes in.

SECOND. To all of my fabulous friends who made my birthday party last night absolutely perfect;

I am speechless. Kind like this.
